Get some exercise and taste some wine at the Wine Wiener Wandertag.
Kate Roughan of the AIOV club will hike Route 1, Neustift to Nussdorf trail and can meet interested AIOV members and potential members at 12:00 at either the start in Neustift or at Cobenzl. No need to register, just show up!
Sat Sep 26 (Route 1 – see link for map, etc.)
There are two options for Saturday’s hike – if you want to start off with a little challenge, we will meet in Neustift and hike to Cobenzl where we refuel ourselves and meet those who will be starting from Cobenzl.
11:30 – meet at Neustift am Walde and walk up to Cobenzl – this is a 4km hike with the first 2km going mostly uphill and through some beautiful vineyards. The second 2 km is fairly flat and goes through the woods, sometimes near the road. It does not look like there will be a lot of places to stop and try food and wine on this leg. Take bus 35 A to Salmonnsdorf from Spittelau Ubahn station (about 20-25 minutes on bus) and get off at Neustift am Walde. There will be an information booth there where we can assemble and get the maps and brochure.
13:00 – meet at Cobenzl and hike remaining trail (7-8 km) of Neustift to Nussdorf, which is mostly rolling vineyards. There are several places to stop to admire scenery and sample wine and food. Pig roasts and live bands were seen on this hike in previous years– it’s very enjoyable.
And for those that can’t get enough of hiking through vineyards… !
Sunday Sep 27 (Route 2 – see linkfor map, etc.)
12:00- meet at Kagranerplatz and take tram 26 to Strebersdorf (20 minutes) to the end of the line, or meet at Alois-Hendel park in Strebersdorf at 12:30. Hike the 11 km to Stammersdorf.
The weather is forecast to be perfect for hiking and enjoying the beautiful scenery and delicious wines! Looking forward to seeing you there.
RSVP isn’t required but it would help to know who and how many are interested in any of the hikes, so we don’t leave anyone behind. Pls send an email to C.Roughan@iaea.org
