In keeping with tradition, the AIOV is once again organizing up to 3 tables (30 tickets) at the Irish Ball, 11 March 2017 at the Intercontinental Hotel. This charity ball is held to benefit Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, and the At. Anna Kinderspital in Vienna, Austria. The Ball is black tie/formal, and will include a sekt reception, 3 course dinner, auction and entertainment provided by the Irish Fire dance troupe and musical guests, Grand. Hailing from Drogheda, Grand are known to be one of Ireland’s best young jazz bands.
Ticket price this year is set at EUR 110.
If you would like to attend, please notify Carrie Mathews ( c dot mathews at iaea dot org) and complete a bank transfer (banking details below), including your last name in the transaction reference. Our 216 Annual Meeting will be held Thursday, 13 October in F1001, starting at 17:00.
Although we always say attendance at the Annual Meeting is mandatory for all club members, please show up with the understanding that this will be a good chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. In addition, several members are heading back to the states soon, so this would be a good chance to say goodbye.
The AIOV will provide drinks and snacks, but if possible, please bring a potluck meal.
During this meeting, elections will be held for the office of Co-Chairman, Secretary, Membership Chair, and Treasurer for 2017. As per the club statutes, we are opening the nominations for these positions to all club members.
If you are, or if you know of a club member that is interested in any of these offices, please send an email to Pete Wells (firstname.lastname@example.org), Lauren Waldner (email@example.com) or Eva Ciabattoni (firstname.lastname@example.org) stating the name of the nominee and the office. Names must be received no later than 12 October.
Please remember that the club is only as good as we make it, so seriously consider running for office!
The AIOV will go on the Vienna Wine Walk, Neustift to Nussdorf, this Saturday October 1. Kate Roughan will lead.
There are two options for Saturday’s hike. If you want to start off with a little challenge, we will meet in Neustift and hike to Cobenzl where we refuel ourselves and meet those who will be starting from Cobenzl.
11:30 – meet at Neustift am Walde and walk up to Cobenzl. This is a 4km hike with the first 2km going mostly uphill and through some beautiful vineyards. The second 2km is fairly flat and goes through the woods, sometimes near the road. It does not look like there will be a lot of places to stop and try food and wine on this leg. Take bus 35A to Salmonnsdorf from Spittelau Ubahn stations (about 20-25 minutes on bus) and get off at Neustift am Walde. There will be an information booth there where we can assemble and get the maps and brochure.
13:00 – meet at Cobenzl and hike the remaining trail 7-8km of Neustift to Nussdorf, which is mostly rolling vineyards. There are several places to stop and admire scenery and to sample wine and food. We’ve seen pig roasts and live bands on this hike in previous years. It is very enjoyable.
And for those that can’t get enough of hiking through vineyards…check the link for other walks offered if you want to go on your own on Sunday!
RSVP isn’t required but it would help to know how many are interested in the hike so that we don’t leave anyone behind, especially in Coblenzl. Please send an email to c.roughan at iaea.org.
